Designer's note

Tadao starts with the working materials of an architecture studio: aged tracing paper, ink tests, floor plans, sections, and superimposed corrections. The sand base functions as that used medium; the dark brown and charcoal shapes organize the painting like walls, shadows, and voids.

We were interested in the sobriety of contemporary Japanese architecture and, in particular, the way of reducing materials and geometries until light and space do the rest. It does not represent a specific building, but rather that contained and precise way of designing.
